The number is almost impossible to believe.

A Mets pitching prospect threw a pitch at 104.5 miles per hour. Seriously.

His name is Raimon Gomez. He's a 23-year old currently pitching for the St. Lucie Mets in Single-A.

Here's the pitch:

Gomez, from Venezuela, began his Mets organization career in 2021 in the Dominican Summer League with a 2.19 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.

In 2022, he pitched in Single-A to the tune of a 3.78 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 47.2 innings.

He moved up to High-A Brooklyn in 2023 and struggled a bit, finishing with a 6.43 ERA in just 7.0 innings.

Gomez missed the entire 2024 season.

Through two appearances this season back at Single-A, Gomez has a 0.00 ERA with seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

With his velocity, slightly advanced age for his level, and injury history, Gomez looks like he's a reliever if anything.

But if he keeps throwing pitches 104 miles per hour, the Mets won't complain about how many innings he can last.

It'll be interesting to see if he soon gets a promotion back to High-A Brooklyn to try and conquer that level after struggling there on his first exposure two seasons ago.

Wherever he goes, you can count on Gomez throwing as hard as anyone on the planet.
