The Philadelphia Eagles are in need of another starting cornerback. The team moved on from Darius Slay earlier in the offseason, who was a consistent starter for the Eagles for five years. Slay inked an agreement with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency after being cut by Philadelphia.

General manager Howie Roseman may wait till the draft to address the position of need, but Athlon Sports' Coby Leibowitz proposes a blockbuster trade that would send Eagles star receiver DeVonta Smith to the Miami Dolphins for three-time All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Smith is only 26 years old and is under contract until 2028. The Dolphins would have their speedy wide receiver trio for years to come and become true contenders with this offense. The Dolphins would also stay in the first round where they can still draft an DB or defensive lineman.

The Eagles could begin to rebuild their defense and still maintain A. J. Brown, Saquon Barkley, and Dallas Goedert on offense. The Dolphins seem like they want to get off of Ramsey fast, and they may try to get a deal like this done before the draft. The wait to see where Ramsey goes begins.

Ramsey will likely play for a new team in 2025, as the star cornerback is exploring a trade out of Miami with some help from the team. General manager Chris Grier stated that Ramsey playing elsewhere this year is in the best interest for all parties involved.

"Really after a couple weeks of discussions between ourselves internally and Jalen and his representation, we decided that it was probably in the best interest for all parties to move forward," Grier said during a recent press conference. "I will say these decisions aren't done quickly and they're not taken lightly because we spent a lot of time this offseason working through this, talking through things. At the end of the day, Jalen did not ask for a trade.

The Eagles could be interested in the seven-time Pro Bowler, as Philadelphia needs another starting boundary corner opposite Quinyon Mitchell, as Cooper DeJean mainly operates as a nickel. Ramsey isn't an elite corner anymore, but the veteran is still a high-level starter who snagged two picks in 2024.

Adding Ramsey to the secondary would be a fantastic move by the Eagles, but it shouldn't cost them DeVonta Smith. The former No.10 overall pick has been a key part of Philadelphia's offense since entering the league in 2021, and he has been a fantastic No.2 receiver opposite A.J. Brown.

Moving on from Smith, who is still 26 years old and has multiple years left on his deal, for Ramsey, an aging defender on a massive contract, would be a foolish move from the Eagles. However, acquiring Ramsey for a pair of draft picks and upgrading the defense for another title run is something Roseman and Philadelphia's front office should look into.
