In 2023, the New York Jets acquired four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers in a trade that was set to tie the quarterback and his new team together through the end of the 2025 season.

However, after Rodgers tore his Achilles just four snaps into his first season and led the team to a 5-12 record and a third-place finish in the AFC East in 2024, the Jets decided to cut ties with Rodgers this offseason, making him a free agent.

Now, with their time together in the past, Rodgers is sharing some details about his time in New York, and on Thursday, he spoke about his final meeting with the team before they released him.

“Listen, that was an interesting two years to say the least," Rodgers said on "The Pat McAfee Show" (transcribed by Zack Rosenblatt). "I figured that when I flew across country to my dime, there would be a conversation. The confusing thing to me is I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking … he runs out of the room. I’m like that’s strange. Then he comes back with the GM, and I’m like all right. So we sit down and I think we’re going to have this long conversation, and 20 seconds in and (Aaron Glenn) goes: 'You sure you wanna play football?' And, I said yes, and he said 'We’re going in another direction.'"

It shouldn't be too surprising that New York was looking to move in a new direction after the first two seasons of Rodgers' tenure were disappointing and led to the firing of both general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh midseason.

With Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey set to run the team together in 2025, it should be obvious that they'll want to get their own guys in there and start somewhat fresh.

Now, they'll have Justin Fields under center after signing the former first-round pick to a two-year, $40 million deal this offseason.

Rodgers is still deciding on his future with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings being the two teams he's linked to most frequently.
