The Boston Red Sox haven’t enjoyed a strong start after a full throttle offseason.

The team has a losing record through its first 19 games, even after acquiring ace Garrett Crochet, promoting top prospect Kristian Campbell and signing star third baseman Alex Bregman.

Though the team has struggled out of the gate, the decision to bring in Bregman seems like it’s paying off. The two-time All-Star is slashing .321/.365/.564 with a league-leading 25 hits and seven doubles in 78 at-bats so far.

His strong start was underscored in a win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night, as he homered twice, logged four RBI and knocked a career-high five hits.

“It felt good,” Bregman told reporters, including Christopher Smith of MassLive, after the game. “Been at four (hits) a few times. But it felt good. More importantly, it felt good to win.”

However, Bregman had a bigger reason to celebrate after the game. His wife, Reagan, is expected to give birth to their second child on Wednesday. As a result, the Red Sox announced that Bregman will be taking a pair of days off on the paternity list.

“See you Friday,” Bregman said, per Smith.

The Red Sox will play a rubber match against the Rays on Wednesday before a day off for the whole team on Thursday. They then have a Friday game against the Chicago White Sox, which won two out of three in their series last week.

“He has a few things the upcoming days family-wise so to have a great day like this is kind of the beginning of a great week for him,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said.

The Red Sox will be hoping that Bregman comes back ready to set some more career records to cap off a monumental week.
