The Edmonton Oilers fell just short of winning the Stanley Cup last season, losing in Game 7 of the Final to the Florida Panthers.
With that heartbreak behind them, they are determined to finish the job this season. Several key players, including Adam Henrique, Mattias Janmark, Corey Perry, Connor Brown, Troy Stecher, and goalie Calvin Pickard, have re-signed as unrestricted free agents, aiming for another deep playoff run.
Additionally, the Oilers bolstered their roster with the signings of forwards Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson. With superstar centers Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in their prime, expectations are sky-high for Edmonton, and anything less than a Stanley Cup win will be seen as a disappointment.
In goal, Stuart Skinner, who made his NHL debut with the Oilers in 2020-2021, enters this season as the clear-cut No. 1 goaltender. Skinner earned the role over Jack Campbell the past two seasons, finishing last year with a strong 36-16-5 record, a 2.62 goals-against average, a .905 save percentage, and two shutouts in 59 games (57 starts). The 25-year-old is expected to handle a similar workload this season, with Calvin Pickard serving as his backup.
