Scottie Scheffler ties 72-hole PGA Tour record: Two-time Masters champ makes history despite late stumble image

Scottie Scheffler won the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson tournament on Sunday. What was even more impressive than the victory, though, was the score he posted while winning.

Scheffler won the event, finishing a whopping 31-under par. He finished the 72-hole tournament shooting a 253 overall on the par-71 course. This tied the best 72-hole score ever recorded on the PGA Tour.

Here's how Scheffler tied the 72-hole PGA Tour record.

Scottie Scheffler ties for lowest PGA score ever

Scheffler was on fire from the jump at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. He finished Thursday's round with a 61, or 10-under par. Scheffler came back on Friday with a 63, leading the remaining golfers who made the cut. He then had his worst round of the tournament with a 66 on Saturday, but avoided completely choking the record away on Sunday, ending with a 63.

Scheffler's 253 is the lowest golf score from a 72-hole event on the PGA Tour. He tied the all-time record set by Justin Thomas at the 2017 Sony Open and Ludvig Aberg at the 2023 RSM Classic. This is, of course, the overall number of strokes that the golfers took to win their events. Hideki Matsuyama holds the record for the lowest score ever. He posted a 35-under at the 2025 The Sentry tournament in Hawaii. That course was a par-73, though, so his overall stroke score was a 257 compared to Scheffler, Thomas, and Aberg's 253.

What is the 72-hole PGA Tour record?

The stroke record for a 72-hole PGA Tour event is 253. This is on four rounds of 18 holes, each. Thomas set the record in 2017 at the 2017 Sony Open. He shot a 27-under overall and a 5-under on the final day of the tournament. Aberg shot a 29-under at the 2023 RSM Classic, with a 9-under of the final day of the event. Thomas set his score on a 70-par course, while Aberg's was a par-72 course. Scheffler's was right in the middle on a par-71 course.

Scottie Scheffler golf clubs

Scheffler mainly uses TaylorMade clubs. He uses a Srixon Z U85 as a utility iron, and Titleist Vokey SM8 Wedges, but other than that, he is TaylorMade for the rest of his clubs. Scheffler hits Titleist Pro V1 golf balls and wears Nike apparel, including Nike golf shoes.

How much did Scottie Scheffler win?

The CJ Cup Byron Nelson had a hefty total purse of $9.9 million. Scheffler's win earned him a cool $1.782 million. Erik van Rooyen earned $1.079 million in second, and Sam Stevens took home $683,100 in third.

Scottie Scheffler net worth

Forbes has Scheffler with a net worth of $61 million, but that was as of June 12, 2024. CelebrityNetWorth has Scheffler at $110 million. It's tough to nail down his net worth between tournament winnings and sponsorship earnings. The No. 1 golfer in the world is likely somewhere in the middle, but he did see it rise by almost $2 million after his first tournament win of the 2025 season.
