Colorado vs. Kansas results, highlights: Travis Hunter's 2 TDs not enough as Devin Neal leads KU upset image

Devin Neal may have ended Colorado's College Football Playoff chances on Saturday.

Kansas' starting running back exploded for 207 rushing yards, 80 receiving yards and four total touchdowns against the Buffaloes in Week 13, helping the Jayhawks pull off a 37-21 upset at Arrowhead Stadium. Remarkably, Saturday's victory represented Kansas' third consecutive win over a ranked opponent despite still having a losing record (5-6) in 2024.

While Colorado's two-way superstar, Travis Hunter, made a significant offensive impact the matchup, it was Neal that shined brightest. In the Jayhawks' final home game of the season, the running back tallied season-highs across the board, scoring touchdowns in all four quarters and breaking free for multiple big runs.

In the end, the Colorado defense's inability to slow down Neal and the rest of Kansas' run game doomed Deion Sanders' squad, which came into Saturday on a four-game win streak. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders found himself the subject of controversy at multiple points, first taking a huge hit with no flag called, then being spotted pushing a referee.

Hunter, arguably the leading Heisman Trophy candidate, still put on a show despite his team's loss. With 125 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, the wide receiver-cornerback hybrid boosted his case for the trophy.

Colorado's recent hot streak came to an end in Week 13, with its potential Big 12 Championship chances also likely falling out with an 8-3 record. Kansas, meanwhile, now has an argument to be a top 25 squad despite its losing record, with the Jayhawks currently on a three-game win streak over ranked opponents (Iowa State, BYU, Colorado).

Colorado vs. Kansas updates, highlights from Week 13 college football matchup

(All times ET)

6:59 p.m. — The Jayhawks run out the clock, and they've officially put together an incredible three-week stretch, taking down three ranked opponents. Devin Neal was unreal, putting Kansas on his back with four touchdowns, and while Travis Hunter totaled two touchdowns of his own, Colorado's playoff hopes take a massive hit with its third loss.

6:51 p.m. — They're chanting "Devin Neal" at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas' running back is putting any Colorado comeback hopes to rest with each of his runs, now up to 195 rushing yards, 80 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Kansas is well on its way to its third consecutive upset victory.

6:43 p.m. — After a penalty, Colorado faced fourth-and-21 from the Kansas 29. Sanders threw an incomplete pass into the end zone, ending the Buffaloes' drive with 6:22 remaining in the game.

6:39 p.m. — On third-and-17 from the Kansas 24, Sanders threw into the end zone, but the pass bounced out of the arms of Will Sheppard and into the turf.

6:30 p.m.  Shedeur Sanders completes five consecutive passes to start Colorado's drive, moving the Buffaloes to the Kansas 30.

Kansas 37, Colorado 21

6:26 p.m. TOUCHDOWN  After a punt from Colorado, Kansas drove down the field, then Devin Neal punched in a two-yard touchdown, his fourth of the game.

6:12 p.m. — Shedeur Sanders appeared to push a referee in footage from the Fox broadcast:

6:07 p.m. — Down goes Sanders on 3rd & 1. Kansas' defense takes the Buffaloes quarterback down, forcing a Colorado punt.

Kansas 30, Colorado 21

6:01 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — It's Neal's third touchdown of the game, and he's putting together a massive performance. Kansas' running back extends its lead, while the Buffaloes' defense continues to struggle to get stops.

6:00 p.m. — Kansas is threatening another scoring drive, as an offsides call on Shilo Sanders gives the Jayhawks 1st & Goal at the four-yard line.

5:52 p.m. — Neal puts together yet another big run, going for 28 yards then drawing a Buffaloes penalty as well. He's up to 122 rushing yards today.

Kansas 23, Colorado 21

5:45 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — It's Hunter once again. Colorado's drive was nearly stalled by an intentional grounding call, but instead, Sanders throws down the left sideline for Hunter. He runs right past a pair of Kansas defenders for a 26-yard score, then hits the Heisman pose.

5:39 p.m. — The second half begins with Colorado getting a returned kick to its own 49-yard line.

5:20 p.m. — Sanders is 12-for-13 with 157 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions at half. Daniels, meanwhile, is 10-for-16 with 143 passing yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Colorado will get the ball to start the second half.

Halftime: Kansas 23, Colorado 14

5:18 p.m. — Sanders takes a knee, sending this game to halftime. Kansas has owned the ground game and the time of possession battle, but because the Buffaloes have held the Jayhawks to a few field goals, this is a game still within Colorado's reach.

Kansas 23, Colorado 14

5:15 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Allen knocks another field goal through, all three of his kicks coming within 25 yards in the first half. Kansas owns a nine-point lead, but it could be way more if it had capitalized on some other red zone opportunities.

5:12 p.m. — The Jayhawks have 3rd & Goal with under 20 seconds remaining in the second quarter. After a long review, Daniels' pass to Trevor Wilson was incomplete.

5:06 p.m. — Kansas' run game keeps chugging along, as Daniels breaks free for a 31-yard play using his feet. Between Daniels, Neal, Morrison and Grimm, Kansas has nearly 200 rushing yards in the first half.

Kansas 20, Colorado 14

5:00 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Sanders goes to Miller again, this time in the middle of the field as the receiver makes a nice grab over his defender in the end zone. Colorado pulls within six points before the break.

4:55 p.m. — Drelon Miller toe-taps for a 16-yard gain:

4:52 p.m. — Sanders goes to Hunter for a 15-yard gain, the two-way star's third catch of the matchup. Sanders took a huge hit to the legs shortly after, but looks to be staying in the game.

Kansas 20, Colorado 7

4:49 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Daniels' pass to Neal on third down fell incomplete, so Kansas takes three points instead. Colorado has just under four minutes to work with before halftime.

4:47 p.m. — The Jayhawks' offense just won't let up, with Neal now ripping off a 47-yard run to set up 1st & Goal.

4:45 p.m. — Morrison runs for 15 yards as Kansas looks to answer the quick strike from Hunter and the Buffaloes.

Kansas 17, Colorado 7

4:39 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — And there's Colorado's response. Of course, it comes from Hunter, who gets a short pass from Sanders, finds a lane and sprints to the end zone. It's a 51-yard touchdown for the Buffaloes, who now have something to work with after a slow start.

Kansas 17, Colorado 0

4:34 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — The Jayhawks are rolling. Neal picks up his second score of the day already, a nine-yard touchdown run. Kardell's catch-and-run set up the touchdown, and all of a sudden, Kansas is up by three scores while the Buffaloes have a goose egg on the scoreboard.

4:32 p.m. — Yet another big play for Kansas comes from Trevor Kardell, who hurdles a defender during a 23-yard gain.

4:24 p.m. — Colorado, still scoreless, goes for it on a 4th & 3, but Kansas' defense comes up huge. Dallan Hayden gets stuffed before the first-down marker, and the Jayhawks take over.

End of first quarter: Kansas 10, Colorado 0

4:19 p.m. — The first quarter comes to an end with the Buffaloes moving into Kansas territory. The Jayhawks' offense has owned the matchup so far, but Colorado has had multiple wins this season come after slow starts.

4:16 p.m. — Sanders goes to LaJohntay Wester for eight yards, Colorado's first time moving the chains today. The Jayhawks have maintained possession through a majority of the opening quarter.

Kansas 10, Colorado 0

4:09 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Colorado's defense bends, but doesn't break this time around. Kansas got 1st & Goal, but winds up settling for a 24-yard field goal from Tabor Allen to make it a 10-0 lead.

4:05 p.m. — Daniels pulls out a video-game-like run, fighting through some tackles and hitting multiple spin moves on a stylish 20-yard play. The Kansas offense is clicking so far.

4:03 p.m. — The Jayhawks are moving the ball well once again on their second drive. Sevion Morrison picks up a first down on the ground, with Kansas now in Colorado territory.

3:58 p.m. — The Buffaloes go three-and-out to start. Hunter wanted a pass interference call on a deep throw from Sanders on 3rd & 4, but he doesn't get one.

3:56 p.m. — Shedeur Sanders' first pass of the day goes to Hunter, but it's for a loss of one yard.
