The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2025 season with a clear-cut leader on offense and defense. All-Pro quarterback Dak Prescott spearheads the offense as he looks to rebound from an injury-ridden 2024 season.
Meanwhile, especially with offseason departures of Jourdan Lewis and DeMarcus Lawrence, it’s Micah Parsons’ defense. However, the superstar linebacker has yet to sign a long-term extension with the franchise and only has one year left on his contract.
The good news is that Parsons has shown a willingness not to potentially disrupt the team during these negotiations, as he showed up to the first day of voluntary offseason workouts. Still, it could get awkward real soon if Jerry Jones and the four-time Pro Bowler don’t come to an agreement before the start of next season.
Prescott, who’s been through these tense negotiations before, revealed in a recent interview with DallasCowboys.com staff writer Tommy Yarrish what his advice for Parsons is during this period.
"I don't have the full answer for it, or I think all of mine would've been done a lot earlier than they were," Prescott said with a laugh. "For him, just stay positive. Understand and make sure that his team knows what he wants and what he believes."
While, from a leverage standpoint, it would’ve been ideal for the Cowboys to extend Parsons before Lawrence left, the star linebacker was likely going to be the highest-paid non-quarterback anyway. The ball is squarely in Jerry Jones’ court to reach a deal, and the clock is ticking.
