BBL10: Jordan Silk’s ‘dropped catch’ steals the show as Sixers fall to Hurricanes on opening night image

Sydney Sixers star Jordan Silk produced arguably the greatest dropped catch in cricket history in his side’s 16-run loss to the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL10 season opener on Thursday night.

Fielding at deep mid-wicket, Silk sprinted around the boundary fence after South African Colin Ingram launched a pull shot off Stephen O’Keefe’s bowling that looked certain to clear the rope at Blundstone Arena.

But Silk, who has made a career of taking gravity defying classic catches, had other ideas.

The 28-year-old launched himself into the air and plucked the ball out of the sky with his outstretched right arm.

Silk caught the ball cleanly but deliberately threw the ball back inside the rope after realising he was going to land well outside of the field of play.

His gravity-defying effort saved four runs but was not enough to deny the Hurricanes victory after the Sixers managed just 6-162 in their innings after the host earlier posted a competitive 8-178 from their 20 overs.

But Silk’s acrobatic effort dominated discussion among fans on social media.
