The A-League Men's UNITE Round kicks off at Allianz Stadium in Sydney with a battle between two sides who are both yet to really fire this season. Of the record 13 teams contesting this year's competition, four are still to win a match, and two of them are first up as Perth Glory and Western United face off.

Last year's wooden spooners Perth are second-bottom of the table as we enter Round 5 of the 2024-25 campaign, picking up a solitary point so far with one draw and three defeats from their four matches. All three of those losses have been convincing, none more so than a 5-0 home thumping by Melbourne City last time out.

Western United's start hasn't been much better though, sitting just one point and one place above Glory in 11th. Their results, however, have been much closer, with draws against Wellington Phoenix and Western Sydney before respective 1-0 and 2-1 losses to Melbourne City and Adelaide United last time out.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this A–League Men's match as Perth and Western United look to finally pick up their first victory of the season, including how to watch, kickoff times and all the latest team news as 12 of the 13 sides play at Allianz Stadium throughout one weekend.

Mariners vs. Perth Glory predicted lineups, team news

Glory have scored just one goal throughout their opening four matches this season – a consolation in a 6-1 opening-day loss to Macarthur – and been held scoreless in the three games since for an accumulated scoreline of 7-0. Veteran striker Adam Taggart simply needs to produce more in the box and will be hoping to do so in this game alongside Cristian Caicedo Castillo.

Perth Glory predicted XI (4-4-2, right to left): Sail (GK) — Ostler, Barr, Canga, Hamzaoui — Williams, Pennington, Gomulka, Anasmo — Taggart, Caicedo Castillo.

Injured:
Suspended: None

Kane Vidmar's first A-League goal wasn't enough to give Western their first win of the season against Adelaide United, but his strong form means he should continue with Tomoki Imai out of the side. Strikers Noah Botic and Hiroshi Ibusuki are yet to repeat last season's output, but both have a chance to do so here against a leaky Perth defence.

Western United predicted XI (4-4-2, right to left): Sutton— Russell, Vidmar, Donachie, Shamoon — Danzaki, Thurgate, Pasquali, Grimaldi — Botic, Ibusuki.

Injured: None
Suspended: None

Perth Glory vs. Western United prediction

As two of the four sides yet to pick up their first wins of the season face off, it's truly a battle of the basement boys in Sydney as UNITE Round gets underway in 2024-25. It'll be close, but given Western United have been involved in some far closer contests than Perth so far, we can't look beyond them claiming their first three points of the campaign as Glory still look a long way off the pace.

  • Prediction: Perth Glory 0–1 Western United.
