Guardiola's decision to extend his City contract until the end of the 2026/27 season is a key boost for the defending Premier League champions.

Despite Guardiola's confidence of the current form dip being a temporary concern, the former Barcelona boss is aware of the need for change, with several of his veteran stars beginning to show their age.
Midfield duo Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne are both out of contract at the end of the season with doubts over the club's willingness to offer extensions due to the latter's injury record.
Defence will also be an area of focus for Guardiola, particularly based his side's recent struggles, and Bournemouth center back Illia Zabarnyi a rumoured target, as per Football Insider.
Illia Zabarnyi Bournemouth contract, transfer fee, stats
Ukraine international Zabarnyi has developed into a real asset for Andoni Iraola's side following a January 2023 transfer move from Dynamo Kyiv.
He missed just one Premier League game in his first full season in England, in 2023/24, and has been virtually ever present in the current campaign.
After signing a contract extension this summer, the 22-year-old is tied to the Vitality Stadium until the end of the 2028/29 season, with a transfer value of around £30m ($38m).
However, the report indicates Bournemouth could push for almost 50% extra on that figure, to consider a sale, and potentially use the money to bolster other areas of their squad.
Zabarnyi has are reputation as a no-nonsense defender, effective at man-marking and the physical side of defending, with a successful shutout of Erling Haaland in their last two meetings.
