Optus Stadium Perth

Team India is all set to begin their five-match Test series tour of Australia with the first Test match at the relatively new Optus Stadium in Perth, on November 22, 2024.

The Test matches which used to be hosted at WACA ground in Perth was shifted to the newly built Optus Stadium in 2018. The Indian team was one of the first teams to play a Test match at the newly built stadium, during the 2018/19 tour, but the teams did not play at this venue during the last tour in 2020/21.

Following India's disastrous 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand, the team's hopes of making it to the World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2025 has taken a huge hit. Australia, on the other hand, are in a strong position to qualify for the second consecutive time.

With the visitors struggling for form, the world champions might sense this to be the perfect opportunity to take down this Indian side, which includes the likes of Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, who are in the last few years of their cricketing career.

Optus Stadium, Perth: Pitch Report

Ahead of the first Test at Perth, the pitch curator Issac McDonald, revealed that the Optus is all set to continue the tradition of being one of the fastest and bounciest surfaces in the world.

An ODI match between Pakistan and Australia was recently played at the venue, which was a relatively low scoring one. We observed that the bowlers got good bounce when they were hitting the deck hard.

With plenty of grass expected on the wicket, which will aid fast bowlers and therefore, both teams are likely to go with just one solitary spinner.

Team that wins the toss might look to bat first as they have won all the four matches at the venue, as the team chasing in the fourth innings have been under great pressure so far, as the pitch deteriorates.
