Thursday night football is set to be ramped up in the 2025 AFL fixture with the amount of matches expanded for a fourth consecutive season.

An exclusive report from SEN details that 23 Thursday night AFL matches will be played in 2025 - up from 14 in 2024.

This will see the early timeslot utilised for all but two rounds of the AFL home-and-away season, with those weeks allowing flexible scheduling heading into the post-season.

AFL FIXTURE NEWS:

When Thursday night football ceased at the end of round 15 in 2024, there were plenty of comments from fans who missed the timeslot in the back end of the season.

The SEN report also states Essendon will play in four Thursday night matches, while Carlton, Hawthorn, Geelong, Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions will each play three.

It is expected the AFL will release the entire 2025 fixture on Thursday.
