Manchester United are reportedly gearing up to renew their pursuit of Everton’s young talent, Jarrad Branthwaite.

The 22-year-old defender has been on United’s radar for some time, and despite Everton rejecting two previous offers — amounting to £50 million ($64m) — it seems United are not backing down. According to TalkSport, Branthwaite fits well with manager Ruben Amorim’s tactical needs, especially for his preferred 3-4-3 setup.

Branthwaite has shown flashes of brilliance, sparking interest from top clubs. While Liverpool have also been keen, United sees the young centre-back as a long-term investment for the club’s defensive line.

His potential to break into the England squad only adds to his appeal to United. However, Branthwaite’s limited appearances this season due to injuries have led to doubts about whether he’s ready for a big move.

Does Branthwaite have what it takes for Man United?

Many fans questioned in the summer of 2024 if United should have gone all-in for a young defender like Branthwaite when immediate defensive stability was needed. But that situation may now have changed.

The team’s recent struggles against top-tier opponents have made it clear they need defenders who can hit the ground running, bringing experience and leadership to the backline.

Although Branthwaite’s talent is undeniable, some supporters worry the hefty price tag could be better spent on seasoned defenders who bring both skill and experience.

United already have young defenders developing, and fans may wonder if adding another unproven player will address the club’s urgent needs.

Only time will tell if Branthwaite is the answer to United’s defensive issues. For now, the young defender remains a potential future star, and United’s next move could shape their defensive line for seasons to come.
