Eryk Anders has revealed that there was no way he would’ve been able to fight at UFC 309.

Just as Saturday’s UFC 309 pay-per-view event at Madison Square Garden kicked off it was revealed that Anders’ scheduled preliminary bout with former middleweight champion Chris Weidman would no longer take place due to Anders falling ill.

While no further clarifications were given at that point, on Sunday, Anders gave an update on his Instagram page. He revealed that he suffered food poisoning on Friday.

“Status update- got food poisoning Friday night and there was no way I would have been able to go out there and compete,” Anders wrote. “Super upset I didn’t get to compete at MSG against a former champ. I seriously doubt that opportunity will come around again, but it is what it is. Hopefully we can get that matchup rebooked ASAP. Thank you all for the messages of concern.”

Anders was scheduled to make his second appearance of the year. In his last fight, he snapped a three-fight skid in March with a decision win over Jamie Pickett. That said, it remains to be seen as to when the bout gets rescheduled.
