Manchester City are reportedly gearing up for a busy January transfer window as Pep Guardiola looks to strengthen his squad after a recent string of disappointing results.
With star forward Julian Alvarez sold to Atletico Madrid, City started the season with fewer players than usual – though they managed an impressive 14-match unbeaten streak early on.
However, City’s momentum hit a snag after their third consecutive loss in all competitions, including a 4-1 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.
Guardiola dismissed suggestions from Bernardo Silva that City was “in a dark place,” defending his players' performance in Portugal. But the need for reinforcements has become more apparent as City juggles multiple competitions with a thinner roster.

What will be Man City's January transfer approach?
According to sources via Football Insider City officials have assured Guardiola that there will be funds available in January, allowing the club to bring in up to two new players to prevent burnout as the season heats up.
Financially, City are in a favourable position after earning approximately £116 million ($149m) from recent player sales, including academy graduates, which has strengthened their budget.
With midfielder Rodri out for the season and many other midfielders over 30, Guardiola is expected to prioritize a young, defensive-minded midfielder to maintain control in City’s engine room. Torino’s Samuele Ricci has emerged as a reported target, particularly since his contract has less than two years remaining.
Additionally, City could look to bolster their defence, given their recent struggles to keep clean sheets and ongoing injury concerns with players like Kyle Walker and John Stones.
City fans will be eager to see who Guardiola brings in to strengthen the squad, hoping that fresh faces in January will reignite the team’s winning form as they pursue more silverware this season.
