Former Florida State and Jets quarterback Jordan Travis is medically retiring from the NFL at 24 years old.
Travis began playing for Louisville in college in 2018. After playing in only three games and redshirting, he transferred to Florida State in 2019. Travis bided his time and used additional eligibility from COVID-19 to play five seasons for the Seminoles. He had led them to an undefeated 11-0 record before suffering a serious leg injury.
Even with the injury, New York used a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on the quarterback. There was hope he would be able to recover last season, but it never happened for the young quarterback.

Jordan Travis injury
In 2023, Travis had led the Seminoles to a 10-0 start heading into a game against North Alabama. This was the tune-up game for Florida State before rivalry week against Florida the next week. Typically, teams will play their starters in these games, and then take them out early once they get out to a big lead.
The worst-case scenario for Travis and Florida State happened. The quarterback suffered a bad-looking injury in the first quarter of the game. He had to be carted off, and he missed the remainder of the season.
Despite the Seminoles finishing the season undefeated, the College Football Playoff committee cited his injury as the reason they were keeping the 'Noles out of that year's top four. Unfortunately for Travis, his game against North Alabama will be the final of his playing career.
How old is Jordan Travis?
Travis was born on May 2, 2000 and is just 24 years old.
Jets QB depth chart
Position | Player |
1 | Justin Fields |
2 | Tyrod Taylor |
3 | Adrian Martinez |
4 | Brady Cook |
Justin Fields
New York will once again shake up its quarterback room for 2025. Aaron Rodgers is a free agent, so the Jets were in need of a new starting quarterback. The Jets decided to bring in former Steelers quarterback Justin Fields. New York signed the free agent to a two-year, $40 million deal. The Jets have a new general manager and head coach to go along with Fields who is expected to lead the franchise into this new era.
Tyrod Taylor
Taylor has a lot of the same skills that Fields has, he is just older. In his early playing days, Taylor was known to escape pockets and hurt defenses on the ground. Nowadays, he is just a reliable backup who will help mentor Fields.
Adrian Martinez
Martinez spent his college career between Nebraska and Kansas State. He went undrafted in 2003, but spent the season on the Lions practice squad. Martinez then played for the Stallions in the UFL. He spent the 2024 season on the Jets practice squad and the franchise signed him to a futures contract on January 6, 2025.
Brady Cook
The Jets didn't draft a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. Instead, New York signed Brady Cook as an undrafted free agent. He spent his entire collegiate career at Missouri, finishing with 9,251 yards, 50 touchdowns and 15 interceptions over 47 games. Cook's best season game in 2023. He had 3,317 yards with 21 touchdowns and six interceptions.
