Daniel Ricciardo's hopes of winning the Australian Grand Prix were dealt a blow after the Red Bull driver was handed a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change.

The Australian qualified 10th fastest at Albert Park on Saturday, including crashing out in Q3.

But he will start from 15th after the gearbox change, in a further blow to his chances of winning his home race for the first time.

Williams' Lance Stroll starts Sunday's race from the back of the grid after the same penalty.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton clinched pole, but Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel did manage to split the Brit and team-mate Valtteri Bottas.
