Izaac Thompson will attempt to revive his NRL career after landing a train and trial deal at Canberra.
The winger wasn’t offered a contract extension by South Sydney, which brought the curtain down on his stay in Redfern.
Thompson managed to make his NRL debut for the Rabbitohs back in 2022 and went on to clock 14 appearances and six tries for the club.
Yet he will now head down to the nation’s capital to try and land a contract at the Raiders.

Izaac Thompson lands NRL chance at Canberra Raiders after Rabbitohs exit
Canberra lost a host of talent in their backline at the end of the 2024 campaign.
Club favourite Jordan Rapana departed and will be joined in the Super League by Nick Cotric. Meanwhile, James Schiller has also left the Green Machine in order to sign with Newcastle.
Kaeo Weekes looks set to remain at fullback following Rapana’s exit with competition for the No.1 jersey likely to come from Chevy Stewart.
Seb Kris and Matt Timoko are almost assured of their spots in the centres to start the 2025 campaign. Although new recruit from St George Illawarra, Savelio Tamale, will be looking to press his claims.
Xavier Savage is a lock for one of the wing spots, while Albert Hopoate is likely to get first crack on the opposite flank despite falling down the pecking order last season.
The 23-year-old made just nine appearances for the Raiders in 2024 as Ricky Stuart cycled through a range of options including Cotric, Schiller and Jed Stuart.
Thompson will be looking to impress the coach and follow in the footsteps of Nathan Brown and Michael Jennings, who turned train and trial deals into full-time NRL contracts after impressing in the pre-season.
The 28-year-old will be joined by Regan Carr, Caleb Garvie, Shaun Packer, Jaxon Lavender, Jensen Taumoepeau and Jayze Tuigamala as the next batch of hopefuls at Canberra.
