Michael Chandler returned to the octagon after a long layoff since 2022 to face Charles Oliveira in a highly anticipated rematch at UFC 309.
The two previously locked horns in 2021 when Oliveira secured a second-round victory. Despite the outcome of their previous fight and the fact that he has been out of action for over two years, Chandler was seemingly confident going into the rematch.
However, Chandler failed to get the better of Oliveira this time as well and ended up losing a unanimous decision. As time has passed since his defeat, the American wrote a lengthy post on Instagram where he took a look back at his defeat.
While congratulating Oliveira and promising to bounce back from the loss, Chandler said:
"Head up, smile on, heart full in the face of whatever comes our way. Many aspects of a fight can be debated about and replayed ad nauseam, but one thing that will never be up for debate is that we prepared to the best of our abilities with zero wavering or concessions."
He added:
“Hats off the Charles [Oliveira], he was the better man on fight night. Thank you to the team I prepared with and walked into battle with. We aren’t even close to being done. Walk On. See you at the top!"
