The Indian contingent have won three bronze medals at the Paris Olympics 2024 so far. All three medals have been bagged by the shooting contingent with Manu Bhaker doing a fantastic job by bagging a couple in only her second Olympics.

The hunt for a gold in Paris still continues for India with wrestler Vinesh Phogat coming ever so close to winning the ultimate prize. The 29-year-old secured a place in the final of the women’s freestyle wrestling in the 50 kg category, however, she was disqualified ahead of the final for being overweight by just 100 grams.

Apart from Phogat, some other prominent athletes will be in action for the Indians in Paris in coming days with huge responsibilities and medal hopes on their shoulders.

Neeraj Chopra was probably India's best bet to win a gold medal at Paris 2024. However, the Indian javelin thrower was pipped to the gold by Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem and had to settle for silver medal.

The Sporting News takes a look at India’s major hopes of bagging a gold at the Summer Olympics this year.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the relay team finished in ninth position in qualification, narrowly missing out on a place in the final. Despite not featuring in the final, they set a new Asian record in the qualification round, clocking at 3:00.25 seconds.

The team secured direct qualification for the Paris Summer Olympics after finishing in the top 14 at the World Athletics Relay 2024 in the Bahamas.

Although they are lesser favourites as compared to Neeraj when it comes to winning the gold, they are more than capable of pulling off a miracle in Paris. The relay team will feature in Paris on Friday, August 9.
