If all goes according to plan for Alex Pereira at UFC 295, he can confidently say Madison Square Garden is his house. Pereira moves up in weight to face Jiri Prochazka for the UFC light heavyweight title on November 11. The fight airs on ESPN+ in the U.S.

Pereira is a two-division GLORY Kickboxing and a WAKO Pro Pan American champion. “Poatan” started competing in MMA in 2015 and joined the UFC in 2021. He made his octagon debut in Madison Square Garden, knocking out Andreas Michailidis. Pereira returned to MSG in 2022, beating rival Israel Adesanya for the UFC middleweight title.

After losing the title to Adesaya, Pereira returns to The Garden in an attempt to win another belt. The Brazilian is ready for what could be a Fight of the Year contender against Prochazka.

“We can see that (Jiri is) unpredictable, but I have a lot of kickboxing experience,” Pereira said via UFC.com. “I've already faced this type of opponent and situations like this, so let’s go to another war.

"I know what to expect. It definitely won’t be easy. I always look at it as the toughest fight. That’s why things have been working. That’s my mindset and it’s been working out. Two experienced guys, strong and durable. I'm prepared for this. He won’t be surprising me in there. I’m expecting a tough fight. It's going to be a war, a great fight, and I'm very excited.”

Prochazka is a former RIZIN light heavyweight champion and beat Glover Teixeira in his last fight in 2022 to win the UFC light heavyweight title. He then relinquished it after suffering an injury. The Czech has never fought at MSG and looks to end Pereira’s impressive run in the arena.

The co-main event will see Sergei Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall fight for the interim UFC heavyweight title. The top-ranked fighters are competing in a short-notice fight after UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones was injured, which subsequently nixed his fight against Stipe Miocic.
