Manchester United begin their UEFA Europa League campaign for 2024/25 at home to Eredivisie side Twente at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag's team were held to a goalless draw at Crystal Palace last Saturday — a result that left them in 11th place in the Premier League table with seven points at the end of the day's play.

While disappointed that they could not capitalise on their dominance at Selhurst Park in the first half in particular, United have shown improvements since a humbling 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool at the beginning of September. They have kept three consecutive clean sheets in all competitions and scored 10 goals across their wins over Southampton and Barnsley prior to the Palace draw.

Now, they turn their attention to Europe and the visit of Twente, who have enjoyed a positive start to the Dutch league season. They are familiar opponents to United manager Ten Hag, who spent most of his playing career with the team from Enschede, winning the domestic cup with them in 2001.

Man United vs. Twente lineups, predicted starting 11, team news

Ten Hag has rotated his lineup ahead of the weekend game against Tottenham but it is still a strong United XI looking to make an impression at the start of the league phase.

Harry Maguire comes at the back for Matthijs de Ligt, while Manuel Ugarte replaces Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.

Rasmus Hojlund and Antony are on the bench as Amad Diallo and Joshua Zirkzee start in attack. Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho swapped their bench and starting roles from last weekend.

Man United predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Onana (GK) — Mazraoui, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot — Eriksen, Ugarte — Amad, Fernandes, Rashford — Zirkzee

Injured: Shaw, Malacia, Lindelof, Yoro
Suspended: None

Twente had one less day to prepare for this game, having faced Almere in the Eredivisie on Sunday.

Sem Steijn is the biggest danger to United. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has started the Dutch league season in terrific form, scoring six goals in six appearances.

Joseph Oosting's side is a young one — the average age of their starting outfield players against Almere was just 23 — but United fans may remember Ricky van Wolfswinkel, the 35-year-old veteran striker who spent three years on the books of Norwich City in England.

Twente predicted XI (4-2-1-3, right to left): Unnerstall (GK) — Van Rooij, Hilgers, Bruns, Salah-Eddine — Regeer, Vlop — Steijn — Van Wolfswinkel, Lammers, Van Bergen

Injured: Taha, Sadilek
Suspended: None
