In the ODI series between Afghanistan and South Africa, Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar has been making headlines for his splendid bowling performances.

During the first ODI at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, he played a pivotal role in dismissing the Proteas for just 106 runs, claiming three wickets and solidifying his reputation as a rising star in international cricket.

He has continued to torment the Proteas and seems to be the next big spin talent from the country that produced Rashid Khan.

Who is Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar ?

Born on March 20, 2006, in Paktia Province, Ghazanfar initially began his cricketing career as a fast bowler. However, he made a successful transition to a mystery-spinner who can bowl off spin and cutters.

His impressive displays for the Mis Ainak Knights in Afghanistan's Shpageeza Cricket League further solidified his reputation, where he grabbed five wickets in just two matches.

Ghazanfar first came into the limelight during the U19 World Cup earlier this year, where he showcased his talent by taking eight wickets at an impressive average of 16.75.

His standout performances caught the attention of selectors, leading to his inclusion in Afghanistan's senior squad for their tour of Ireland in March.

Why is Ghazanfar considered a mystery spinner?

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, Ghazanfar’s height and ability to spin the ball both ways have drawn comparisons to established spinners like India’s Ravichandran Ashwin, who he cites as an inspiration.

His unique delivery styles and adeptness at keeping batsmen guessing make him a valuable asset, particularly in T20 formats.

This skill set caught the eye of the Kolkata Knight Riders, who signed him as a replacement for Mujeeb Ur Rahman for the 2024 IPL season.
