The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) between India and Australia is set to be a thrilling series, with both teams gearing up for what promises to be a highly competitive battle.

This series holds special significance as it marks the first time since 1991-92 that India will play five Test matches in Australia.

Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has made his prediction, forecasting a 3-1 series victory for India.

What does Gavaskar think about Australia's Batting?

Gavaskar has expressed concerns about Australia's batting lineup, particularly in the absence of David Warner. He believes that Australia's batting is vulnerable.

“With their opening batting problems exacerbated after the retirement of David Warner and the middle-order also a bit dodgy, the Aussies are ripe for the taking once again,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for the mid-day.

Will India’s lack of practice games affect their performance?

One of Gavaskar's key concerns heading into the series is India's tendency to be slow starters in overseas Test series, particularly in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries.

He highlighted the lack of "proper first-class" matches before the series as a potential disadvantage for India.

"India being the usual slow starters in an overseas series in SENA countries the first Test will be crucial. That they aren't playing proper first-class games before that as well as in the week-long gaps between some Test matches could work against them,” he wrote.

What did Sunil Gavaskar predict for the BGT?

Gavaskar remains optimistic about India's chances in the series. He has backed the Indian team to emerge victorious with a 3-1 series win.

“It’s going to be an exciting series for sure with the talent that is there on both sides and it will also show why Test match cricket is the ultimate format of our beloved game. Oh, and my prediction is a 3-1 win for India,” he concluded.
