Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has raised concerns about the current state of Pakistan cricket, suggesting that the country is facing a serious talent deficit.

The former Indian captain's comments come after Pakistan’s string of disappointing performances in recent international tournaments, including early exits in both the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup.

Is there a genuine lack of talent in Pakistan Cricket?

Ganguly, while speaking at a promotional event in Kolkata, expressed his disappointment with the current Pakistan squad. According to him, Pakistan lacks the kind of talent that used to define their teams in the past.

"I see a genuine dearth of talent in the country. Every time we think of Pakistan, we remember Miandad, Wasim, Waqar, Saeed Anwar, Mohammad Yousuf, and Younis Khan,” Ganguly said.

Why doesn’t Pakistan produce world-class players anymore?

Drawing a stark comparison between past and present, Ganguly questioned Pakistan’s ability to produce cricketers of the same calibre as Miandad, Wasim, and Waqar.

He mentioned that the Pakistan teams of the past were brimming with world-class talent. However, the current generation has struggled to live up to that legacy.

"That's the memory of Pakistan for us, but that doesn’t win matches in the modern generation of cricket. Every generation has to produce outstanding players to win, and when I look at Pakistan in world cricket -- I saw them in the West Indies World Cup, in India during the World Cup, and now after the Bangladesh series loss -- there is a dearth of talent in that country,” added Ganguly.

While Ganguly was critical of the current state of Pakistan cricket, he made it clear that his remarks were not intended to disrespect the players.

"The people connected with the sport in Pakistan will have to look into it. I'm not saying this with disrespect. Pakistan of the old had some great cricketers, which I don't see in this squad," Ganguly noted.
