The veteran off-spinner proved his mettle with the bat, notching his sixth Test hundred, with a massive contribution that has put India in a commanding position by the end of Day 1.

How did Ashwin's century impact the game?

Ashwin came to the crease at a time when India was reeling at 144/6, having lost several top-order batsmen. Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli fell cheaply, with the Bangladesh pacers causing early damage.

However, Ashwin, alongside Ravindra Jadeja, began the rebuilding process, displaying resilience and counterattacking with flair.

His remarkable innings echoed his previous century at Chepauk, the last of which came against England in 2021, cementing his status as one of India’s key all-rounders.
