Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has fired a stern warning to in-form England star Joe Root ahead of the Test series against India next year. The Three Lions will host the Indian team for a five-match bilateral series starting July 2025.

England recently lost their final Test of the three-match series against Sri Lanka. Playing at home, the 2019 ODI World Cup winners could not inflict a white-wash on the Asian side, as Joe Root failed to fire at the iconic Kennington Oval in London.

In his column for the Telegraph, the former England captain wrote, "This week really hit home to me how important Joe Root is to this batting lineup. His batting is the key. He can’t do it every week, and he didn’t do it this week."

He added,

Jasprit Bumrah enjoys bowling at Root, and could severely limit his output next summer. The same goes for Pat Cummins in Australia, where Root has never scored a hundred. England have to have ways of succeeding when Root doesn’t make big runs. On the basis of this game, they don’t.
