Kieron Pollard once again showed why he is one of the best finishers in T20 cricket. During a match in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League 2024, the Trinbago Knight Riders captain smashed four sixes in the 19th over to guide his team to a four-wicket win over the Saint Lucia Kings.

With 27 runs needed in the final overs, Pollard's quickfire 52 not out helped his side chase down the target with five balls to spare.

Following the victory, the Knight Riders moved to third place in the CPL 2024 points table.

What happened in the CPL 2024 match between Trinbago Knight Riders and Saint Lucia Kings?

After winning the toss, Pollard chose to bowl first, and the St Lucia Kings led by Faf du Plessis, along with opener Johnson Charles provided them with a good start.

Charles hit a quick-fire 29, while du Plessis scored 34 before getting bowled by Waqar Salamkheil. Later, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Roston Chase steadied the innings with an 80-run partnership. Chase remained unbeaten on 56, helping his team post a competitive score.

Saint Lucia posted a total of 187/6 in the first innings.

Trinbago Knight Riders began their chase of 188 with confidence as Shaqkere Parris smashed his way to a rapid 57 from 33 balls, including three towering sixes in the fifth over. Nicholas Pooran chipped in with two sixes, but the team's run-rate began to slide Once the wickets started falling.

Just as the required run rate and pressure on the batters increased, Pollard began to exert his control in the middle. With 27 runs required in the last 12 balls, Pollard smashed four sixes in a row, during the 19th over, to completely change the tide of the match.

His unbeaten 52, with seven sixes, secured the win for the Knight Riders. Akeal Hosein finished off the match with a boundary in the final over, completing the chase.

What did Kieron Pollard say post-match?

Reflecting on the game, Pollard said, "If it’s my role to finish games, that’s what I’ll do. Now that I’ve played a lot of cricket around the world, it’s my opportunity to give opportunities and play around others till I call it quits."
