New Zealand ace-batter Kane Williamson lauded fab-four rival and England talisman, Joe Root. Williamson has been at the forefront of the Blackcaps' batting unit for the last decade. And so is Joe Root, for England.

New Zealand are currently in Greater Noida for a one-off Test match against Afghanistan. The game is a part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

With a lack of Test-standard facilities and security concerns in Afghanistan, Kane Williamson and New Zealand have travelled to India to play the Test.

Ahead of the game starting on September 09, the Kiwi talisman spoke about his batting rival Joe Root. The Englishman has been in fine form in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka.

What did Kane Williamson say about fab-four rival Joe Root?

Joe Root's performances in the red-ball format have been par excellence. The 33-year-old has been breaking records in Tests, and scripting new ones. Root recently overtook Alastair Cook to score most Test centuries for England.

Moreover, he scored centuries in both innings in the second match against Sri Lanka, and is on course to become the sixth-highest run-getter in Test cricket. Kane Williamson spoke about the 'phenomenal' Joe Root in his pre-match presser for the game against Afghanistan.

"You mentioned Joe Root. He has been something else for a long period of time. Obviously, there is a lot of attention on what he might be able to achieve in a number of years and it’s just incredible that that conversion can even be had. He has been phenomenal," Kane Williamson stated.
