Who does Manav Suthar idolise?

In an exclusive interview with ESPNcricinfo, Suthar shared his admiration for R Ashwin, describing him as the perfect idol. Despite growing up admiring Yuvraj Singh, Suthar’s journey as a bowler led him to idolize none other than R Ashwin.

Ashwin, known for his ability to adapt to various surfaces and his mastery of using the crease, has become the perfect role model for Suthar.

"His bowling, variations, how he responds with some kind of variation for all kinds of surfaces, the way he uses the crease - for me, it's like he's the perfect idol," said Suthar.

"When I hadn't started playing, I wanted to be like Yuvraj [Singh]. Even now, he's my all-time favourite, but as a bowler, I love Ashwin bhaiyya," he added.

What makes Manav Suthar stand out?

Suthar’s versatility has made him a crucial player for the teams he represents. His recent Duleep Trophy debut was a testament to his skill, where he picked up 7 wickets in India D’s second innings.

Suthar's success is rooted in relentless preparation. Training under extreme conditions, often in 50-degree heat, he honed his skills at the nets for hours.

"Spot bowling helped me develop bowling on a tappa, put more body into my deliveries," Suthar explains. "You're able to put in more revs. I did this to get in tune with the basics. At one point in the off-season, I used to bowl easily 30-40 overs of spot bowling over 3-4 hours. Bat for 15 overs, bowl for 20 overs. Used to repeat this twice," said Suthar.
