The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) have announced Team India's squad for the first Test match of the upcoming two-match series at home against Bangladesh that will start on September 19, 2024.

The tour will also mark head coach Gautam Gambhir's first assignment in the red-ball format, as head coach of the national team.

The series against Bangladesh is the start of a hectic Test cricket season for the Indian team, which will be followed by a three-match Test series against New Zealand and a five-match tour of Australia.

Complete India squad for 1st Test match against Bangladesh

On Sunday, September 8, the BCCI announced a 16-man squad for the first Test match against Bangladesh.

India Test squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.

Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant who played his last Test match against Bangladesh at Mirpur in 2022, has now made a return to the red-ball team against the same opponent.

The 26-year-old proved his fitness during the ongoing Duleep Trophy where he helped his India B team to victory against a superior India A opponent, which had the likes of Test stars Shubman Gill and KL Rahul.

On the other hand, left-arm pacer Yash Dayal received his maiden call-up to the Indian Test team. He was also part of Pant's victorious India B team during the Duleep Trophy, where he picked up 1/39 and 3/50 in the two innings.
