(getty)

Virat Kohli & Co. emerged triumphant in a high-intensity fielding drill held by Indian cricket team fielding coach T. Dilip. Fielding is as important an aspect as batting or bowling in international cricket.

As wise men say, 'Catches win matches', India has given fielding the respect that it deserves. To remind our readers, Suryakumar Yadav's catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final was arguably the reason why India even clinched the trophy.

Moreover, in the recent ODI World Cup 2023, a member of the team was awarded a fielding medal at the end of every match, for his heroics on the field.

The tradition has been continued even in the Gautam Gambhir era. Fielding coach T. Dilip revealed the team went through an intense fielding drill on Monday, ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai.

What did coach Dilip say on the fielding drills performed on Monday?

India's fielding coach revealed that Virat Kohli & Co. emerged triumphant in a high-intensity fielding drill. The 'competition drill' was all about minimising the errors in catching.

"Today, we got everyone in a team drill. We got two segments to it. The first segment was the competition drill. Taking in consideration the humidity in Chennai, where the volume was less but the intensity was there," Dilip revealed.

He added, "So we split into two groups and had some mini competitions in catching and the less number of errors in the team won. Today Virat's team which has won today."

In the second drill we split two batches, the bowlers and all rounders were split into two stations where outfield and infield catching was done with attacking ground fielding. Today the second group, which was the batters' group, was standing in the slip cordon and short-leg," he added.
