India's dominance in home conditions in Tests has become a hallmark of their cricketing prowess in recent years, drawing comparisons with some of the greatest teams in history.

Fans and pundits often ask: Is India's dominance at home in this era superior to that of Australia in the 2000s and the West Indies in the 1980s?

How does India’s home dominance compare to Australia and West Indies' glory years?

India’s unparalleled success at home over the past decade is undeniable. Since their last home Test series defeat in 2012/13, India has won 17 consecutive series, with only four Test match losses on home soil.

This staggering record puts them alongside the West Indies of the late 1970s and 1980s and Australia's dominant run in the 2000s. However, when analyzing home records alone, India’s 78.84% win rate surpasses the West Indies' 60% win rate during their peak years.

Australia's dominance from 1999 to 2007, while significant, saw them achieve an 83% home win rate, but it lasted less than a decade.

"Yes at the moment, because in home conditions India is unmatched. You look at Australia and West Indies in their glory years, they didn't have the same home record," said Harsha Bhogle when asked if India's dominance at home in this era superior to that of Australia and West Indies.

What about India’s struggles away from home?

Despite India's incredible record at home, Harsha Bhogle points out a crucial detail—India has yet to conquer all foreign terrains.

While they’ve managed significant victories in Australia, West Indies, and England, South Africa remains a challenge.

Twice in recent years, India came close to winning a series there but fell short against a vulnerable South African team.

"There is just one thing that to me is coming in the way and that is South Africa. I think India have gone there twice and both times India could have won against a vulnerable South African side but they could not," said Bhogle.

India’s dominance at home has been largely due to a combination of world-class spinners and powerful batting depth. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been instrumental in India’s success at home, ensuring a potent spin threat while contributing runs lower down the order.
