India wins their first international match, back after a break to kick off their Test season with a 280 run win over Bangladesh in the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The Bangla Tigers came into this Test on the back of a historic 2-0 victory in a Test series against Pakistan. With a combination of quality pacers, experienced spinners and determined batters, the visitors mounted a challenge early on in the game as they reduced the hosts to 144/6 before R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja pulled India back in the match with a 199 run stand.

R Ashwin scored his 6th Test century before getting out for 113(133) while Jadeja missed out on a century by 14 runs.

With the ball, India, led by Jasprit Bumrah's 4/50 killed the game as India got a 227-run lead.

Twin centuries from Rishabh Pant 108(128) and Shubman Gill 119*(176) meant that there was no way back in the match for the visitors after being made to chase 515 runs.

Ashwin who went wicketless in the first innings returned with a 6/88 (21) and his spin twin Jadeja took 3/58 (15.1) as India wrapped up Bangladesh despite captain Shanto's valiant effort of 82(127).

This Test series is crucial as it is part of the World Test Championship (WTC) where India will look to hold on to the top spot while Bangladesh will be hoping to push higher up in the standings.

10:48 am: WICKET! Jadeja opens his account as Litton Das perishes after a full-length delivery from Jadeja spins away and catches his edge on defence on its way to captain Rohit Sharma in the first slip. Litton 1(10); Bangladesh 205/6.

10:36 am: WICKET! The local boy strikes in the first over after the drinks break to get his 4th wicket of the innings as he angles one in from around the wicket and Shakib bat-pads it to Yashasvi Jaiswal. Bangladesh 194/5 as Shakib departs for 25(56). Litton Das is the new man in.

10:30 am: DRINKS: Bangladesh goes through the first hour of the day without losing any wickets. Shanto unbeaten on 64 while Shakib has 25* to his name as they stitch an unbeaten 48 run partnership for the 5th wicket.

9:30 am: DAY 4 Begins! Mohammad Siraj to resumes his over to start the proceedings for a fresh day as Bangladesh needs another 357 runs to win with 6 wickets in hand. Najmul Hossain Shanto (53*) and Shakib Al Hasan (5*).

4:29 pm: Stumps on Day Three! The light is fading, and conditions won't improve. In fact, the large covers are now being brought onto the field. Another day that firmly belonged to India.

With two days remaining in the Test, the contest now stands at 357 runs versus 6 wickets! As the pitch deteriorates, spinners are likely to find even more assistance. India is in a commanding position and will be confident of closing out the game tomorrow.

3:55 pm: WICKET! On the very next delivery after hitting six, Rahim mistimes a shot, chipping it towards mid-on where he's caught. The Indians are confident, but the umpires refer it to the third umpire to confirm. Rahim is out! That's Ashwin's third wicket.

3:43 pm: WICKET! Ashwin delivers a beauty to dismiss Mominul Haque. The ball drifted in towards the left-hander before turning just enough to miss the bat and crash into the off stump. BAN 124/3

3:10 pm: Bangladesh lose both openers after a brisk start in the chase. They are currently 88/2, as they need 427 more runs to win the Test match.

1:11 pm: Start of Bangladesh's innings! Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam walk out for Bangladesh to potentially chase down a record target of 515 in the fourth innings at Chennai.

1 pm: INDIA DECLARES! Captain Rohit Sharma calls Gill and KL Rahul back with a lead of 514 runs. Shubman Gill 119*(176); KL Rahul 22*(19). Mehidy Hasan Miraz returns as the pick of the bowlers with 2/103 in the second innings. Bangladesh needs 515 to win.

12:53 pm: India's lead crosses 500! Gill pushes one between the cover and long off for a double off Shakib to cross the 500-run lead. 

12:44 pm: HUNDRED FOR GILL! Shubman Gill scores his 5th Test century in Test cricket with a flick on a full delivery outside off. He bows down and the crowd is on their feet again. Gill 100*(161). India leads by 483 runs.

12:30 pm: WICKET! Pant caught and bowled by Mehidy Hasan as the bowler breaks the partnership between Pant and Gill. The southpaw walks back on 109(128) with 13 fours and 4 sixes. He tries to hit Mehidy hard down the ground but can't make it to the ball's pitching area and hits it hard to the bowler's hands.

12:25 pm: HUNDRED FOR PANT! Rishabh Pant returns to Test cricket after over 700 days and brings up his 6th Test hundred off 124 balls with a punch through the wide long off for a double. Silent celebration from the southpaw and the Chennai crowd is on their feet. Pant 101*(124). India leads by 452. He also equals MS Dhoni's 6 Test centuries and becomes the Indian keeper with the most Test tons.

12:18 pm: 150-run partnership! Pant brings up the 150-run partnership with a ramp shot off Shakib on one knee to get a four. 150*(200) for the Pant and Gill duo.

11:30 am: LUNCH- India takes the first session of Day 3 as they go back to the dressing room without losing a wicket. Gill and Pant's duo stitch an unbeaten partnership of 138 runs as both of them approach their centuries. India 205/3 and leads by 432 runs. Shubman Gill- 86*(137); Rishabh Pant- 82*(108).

3:15 pm: ALL OUT! India bowls out Bangladesh for a mere 149 runs on board. Bumrah was the pick of the bowler with 4 wickets, while Akash Deep, Siraj and Jadeja picked up 2 wickets each.

12.32 pm: Five Down! Bumrah strikes again as Mushfiqur Rahim is caught at slip. The length ball nipped in just enough, leaving Rahim with no chance. Bangladesh now faces a serious challenge at 40/5.

12:27: WICKET! Soon after the lunchShanto is the next to go, falling to a wicket from Siraj. Bangladesh is in trouble at four down. Shakib Al Hasan faces a similar delivery but manages to avoid the wicket, getting off the mark with a double by driving the ball wide of cover.

11:30 am: LUNCH- Bangladesh struggled with bat after a good bowling performance in the morning, losing three wickets in just 45 minutes. Shadman was out while shouldering arms, and in the last over before lunch, Akash Deep took consecutive wickets of Zakir and Mominul.

10:37 am: WICKET! Hasan Mahmud claims his fifth wicket, dismissing Bumrah for 7 as he edges a back-of-a-length delivery to third slip. This marks Mahmud's second five-wicket haul in consecutive Test innings. India is bowled out for 376.

10:30 am: WICKET! Taskin claims his third wicket of the day as Ashwin departs. Attempting an aggressive shot, he fails to time it properly, trying to clear mid-off but could not power it. He walks off after a solid 113 runs off 133 balls, receiving a standing ovation for his efforts.
