Will Jay Shah become the new International Cricket Council chief?

Jay Shah is in the reckoning to become the new chairman of the ICC, succeeding the Kiwi. While the current secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is among the frontrunners, it remains to be seen if Shah will be elected for the post.

It is reported that the bureaucrat would be open to the move, with the BCCI mandate not allowing an individual to assume a third straight term at the office. His tenure with the BCCI is bound until late 2025. However, if elected for the ICC post, the 35-year-old would begin his role on December 01, 2024.

Current directors are required to submit nominations for the next Chair by 27 August 2024. If there are more than two candidates, an election will be held, with the new Chair's term beginning on 1 December 2024, as per a press release by the ICC.
