The decennary season of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) is inching closer.

All eight franchises were active at the WBBL player draft on Sunday. There have been some major developments and surprises from the draft-picks.

The WBBL has been a revelation for women's cricket, giving it a spotlight and attention that it needed. Australia' domestic T20 league for women was the first of its kind in the world. Many talented Indian women have also featured in the WBBL.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) prohibits any active male player to participate in overseas T20 / T10 leagues, to manage their workload. In women's case, it is all quite different. The BCCI has facilitated the participation of women's cricketers in identified leagues to boost their skill and gain valuable experiences.

Indians picked at 2024-25 Women's Big Bash League player draft

The first four rounds of the WBBL 2024/25 player draft have been completed. A total of six Indian players have been picked so far in the competition. While Smriti Mandhana was pre-listed by her former franchise Adelaide Strikers, the likes of Yastika Bhatia and Hemalatha Dayalan will be a part of WBBL in the upcoming season too.

Harmanpreet Kaur unsold: List of Indian players unsold so far at WBBL 2024/25 player draft

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was one of the most-surprising calls made by the WBBL franchises at the draft tables. After representing Melbourne Renegades in the previous seasons, the 35-year-old has failed to find a team ahead of the 2024-25 season.
