Indian batting stalwarts, Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma have been rumoured to mark a return to the domestic circuit in the past few days. The pair were speculated to feature in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, however, the BCCI have just announced the squad for the Duleep Trophy with neither of the two featuring in any of the squads.

Virat last featured in the Duleep Trophy 14 years ago in 20210, while Rohit last played in the tournament in 2015. The chances of the two batters playing the red-ball domestic tournament were low right from the start since India are set to compete against Bangladesh in a two-match Test series at home beginning September 19.

On the other hand, the Duleep Trophy is set to be played from September 5 up until September 23. Nevertheless, white-ball vice captain Shubhman Gill will be captaining Team A in the tournament while Shreyas Iyer has been announced as the skipper of Team D.

Five-time IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwas will also feature in the Duleep Trophy as Team C’s skipper.

The tournament will be played in Andhra Pradesh and Bengaluru.
