Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been named the brand ambassador for the SA20 League.

The SA20 League is owned by the owners of IPL teams and consists of six franchises: MI Cape Town, Joburg Super Kings, Durban Super Giants, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Karthik, who retired from all forms of cricket earlier this year, expressed his excitement.

"The league has been electric in the first two seasons with some of the world’s best players on show and exciting young talent putting up their hands on the global stage. It’s a privilege to be associated with the Betway SA20 and I look forward to working with Graeme and his team,” he said.

Graeme Smith, South Africa’s former captain and the league commissioner, praised Karthik’s involvement.

“His exceptional cricketing talent and personality make him the perfect fit for our league, and his involvement will undoubtedly elevate the league’s status globally and in India,” said Smith.

Dinesh Karthik’s T20 league background

Karthik has extensive experience in franchise T20 cricket, having played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception in 2008. He has represented six teams over his 16-year IPL career and scored 4,842 runs with an average of 26.32 and a strike rate of 135.66.

He has also taken 145 catches and made 37 stumpings. In the latter stages of his career, he became known as one of the format's best finishers.

What is Dinesh Karthik’s role beyond the field?

Apart from his cricketing skills, Karthik is also a popular television commentator, known for his game knowledge and unique sense of humor. He will be working closely with fellow Betway SA20 ambassador AB de Villiers and the management team to expand the league's global fan base and reinforce brand awareness in India and the UK.
