The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly in talks with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to include cricket in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG). The Paris Olympics 2024 has ended on a high, and the preparations are already underway for the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. 

The ICC has initiated talks with the IOC for the inclusion of cricket in the Youth Olympics 2030. The Youth Olympics, like the senior Olympics, is a quadrennial multi-sport event for the age group of 15-18 years. Both summer and winter youth Olympics are held every four years.

Will Cricket be included in the Youth Olympics? 

Cricket has already made its inroads as an Olympic sport, with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics set to witness the entry of cricket after 128 years. Keeping that in mind, the ICC aim to include the sport in the YOG as well.

The idea is raised based on the Government of India's (GoI) proposal to host the 2030 Youth Olympics in Mumbai. 

"It's a good idea and something we could look at, William Glenwright, ICC's General Manager of Development, stated in an e-mail talking about cricket's inclusion in 2030 YOG, as reported by Cricbuzz.

Will India host the Youth Olympics 2030?

Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi spoke actively about hosting the Youth Olympic Games 2030 in India, at the IOC session in Mumbai in October 2023. Moreover, Modi also claimed that India would bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. 

There is a strong for cricket at Youth Olympic Games (YOG) with Mumbai bidding to host 2030 YOG. No less a person than Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now publicly proclaimed India's desire to host both the 2030 YOG and 2036 Olympics, Vivek Gopalan stated.
