Afghanistan Cricket Board, on Thursday, announced a 17-man squad for their upcoming ODI series against South Africa which starts on September 18 in UAE.

Leg spinner, Rashid Khan is set to mark his ODI comeback for the first time since last November as Afghanistan will play a three-match ODI series against South Africa beginning on Wednesday, September 18 at Sharjah.

Led by the 29-year-old, southpaw, Hashmatullah Shahidi, the Afghans will be missing the services of Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman while the left-arm wrist spinner, Noor Ahmed has also been left out of the squad.

Afghanistan ODI squad: Hashmatullah Shahidi (capt), Rahmat Shah (vc), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ikram Alikhil, Abdul Malik, Riaz Hassan, Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Nangeyalia Kharote, AM Ghazanfar, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Bilal Sami, Naveed Zadran, Fareed Ahmad.

The ACB has also called up three potential debutants in the squad including the top-order batters, Darwish Rasooli who has already played T20I cricket for the nation and Abdul Malik who has played Tests and pacer, Bilal Sami who might get to have his first-ever international outing against the Proteas.

The opener, Ibrahim Zadran sprained his ankle ahead of the only Test against New Zealand and will also be missing the ODI series against South Africa while AM Ghazanfar, the off-spinner will cover for the unavailable mystery spinner, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman.
