Tim Tszyu continues to stay active as he waits for a fight against undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo, who has been recovering from injury. Until then, the Australian boxer-puncher will face whoever threatens his shot at undisputed gold.

Tszyu defends the WBO interim belt against Carlos Ocampo on June 17 (June 18 in Australia) inside the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Broadbeach, Australia. The fight airs on Showtime in the U.S.

The son of former undisputed super lightweight champion Kostya Tszyu, Tim turned pro in 2016. "The Soul Taker" impressed fans with wins over Dennis Hogan, Steve Spark, and Takeshi Inoue, while climbing the rankings.

The 28-year-old Tszyu was supposed to fight Charlo, but when the champion pulled out, he picked up the interim belt at the expense of American Tony Harrison. Now Tszyu is ready for another big test in the dangerous Ocampo.

“He's just a tough, tough, tough fight,”  Tszyu said via Daily Mail. “'Stylistically, it's a different type of fight to Harrison. It's going to be a fight where you get tired, you're throwing a lot of punches, you're throwing a lot of heavy shots rather than concentrating on placement. With Tony Harrison, it was more strategic; it wasn't as brutal.

“Ocampo is a warrior, first and foremost. It's in his blood. He won't give up, he'll die on his shield.”

Ocampo turned pro in 2012. the Mexican warrior had his 22-fight unbeaten streak snapped against Errol Spence Jr. for welterweight gold in 2018. Since then, he's gone 13-1. While he failed to win the interim WBC super welterweight belt against Sebastian Fundora, a TKO win against Mauricio Gutierrez Castor handed him this opportunity.
