Even in a 5-1 victory, Liverpool didn't exactly make it easy for themselves, but in the end, the Reds moved top of their Europa League group by brushing Toulouse aside to stay perfect through three games in continental action.
The Reds were comfortably in front at the break thanks to three first-half goals. Diogo Jota opened the scoring nine minutes in, but Toulouse struck back moments later through Thijs Dallinga as the Liverpool defence was caught napping.
It was all Liverpool from there, as they pulled away on goals from Wataru Endo — his first in a Liverpool shirt — and Darwin Nunez to close out the opening stanza. Toulouse improved after halftime, putting Liverpool under real pressure, and they should have drawn closer but Gabriel Suazo botched a huge chance, seeing Trent Alexander-Arnold able to block the shot on the line.
Even as Ryan Gravenberch put the game out of reach and sealed the three points for Liverpool, the moment was not without a bit of struggle for the Reds. Gravenberch would ultimately put the chance away with 20 minutes to go, but not before Darwin Nunez bungled an elementary finish on a wide-open net, hitting the post as the rebound luckily fell straight to his Dutch teammate.
Mohamed Salah was in off the bench put the cherry on top with a fabulous finish with the last kick of the game to give the Liverpool fans one last moment to savour at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp will be pleased as his young lineup saw the game out with few issues after that, but there are improvements to be made despite the ultimately lopsided scoreline, which felt harsh on the French visitors.
Gravenberch was the standout player of the match, with his goal the highlight of an electric two-way performance that saw him take three shots, create three chances for teammates, complete all three of his dribble attempts, and win two tackles amidst seven defensive actions. It will give Klopp a moment's pause to potentially give the Dutchman more time in Premier League action after starring in multiple European games.

Liverpool vs Toulouse live updates, highlights, commentary
FULLTIME: Liverpool 5-1 Toulouse
It was nervy at times, but ultimately Liverpool have done the business with flying colors! A number of young Liverpool players were star performers, but none more than Ryan Gravenberch, who was exceptional in all phases of midfield play.
Young left-back Luke Chambers filled in for Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas admirably, and Curtis Jones continues to show he is a key player in the middle. Wataru Endo got his first Liverpool goal, while two youngsters made their Liverpool debuts off the bench.
An all-around successful day for the Reds and coach Jurgen Klopp!
Liverpool vs Toulouse: Second Half
90+3 min: GOAL! LIVERPOOL! Mohamed Salah puts the cherry on top of a wonderful attacking performance! He receives the ball off a generous deflection and deftly changes feet to put Moussa Diarra in a blender. Then he produces a rocketed finish that's roofed into the back of the net with the last kick of the game.
The goal gives Mohamed Salah another record, scoring his 43rd goal in European competition while playing for a Premier League club, passing Thierry Henry for most in the league's history.

89th min: Jurgen Klopp makes his final substitution as young midfielder James McConnell makes his Liverpool in place of Curtis Jones, just minutes after Calum Scanlon also made his first appearance as a Red with his earlier entrance.
85th min: Toulouse are continuing to cause problems in transition as they look to bypass the Liverpool midfield over the top. Frank Magri is sent through up front but Jarell Quansah gets back to make a block as four defenders close around the Toulouse man as he gets a shot off.
78th min: Chance, Toulouse! Caoimhin Kelleher makes a good save down low as Toulouse substitute Cesar Gelabert puts an awkward shot on frame! The 22-year-old Spaniard seemed to slip as he took the shot, seeing the ball placed too central to trouble Kelleher.
75th min: The first yellow card of the match is shown to Harvey Elliott for a foul on Toulouse defender Moussa Diarra.
70th min: Jurgen Klopp dips into his bench again, much to the delight of the Anfield crowd, as Mohamed Salah comes on to replace Ryan Gravenberch. That will likely push Cody Gakpo or Harvey Elliott into midfield.
Gravenberch was exceptional in his 70 minutes of action, and now Klopp will have to think about giving him more minutes in the Premier League.
Salah on for Gravenberch - who has been the star of the show.

67th min: Jurgen Klopp makes a trio of changes in the aftermath, as the miss by Darwin Nunez is his last action before being withdrawn alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luke Chambers. Cody Gakpo, Jarell Quansah, and Calum Scanlon are on.
Toulouse also produce a triple change, with Cesar Gelabert, Frank Magri, and Denis Genreau all entering in place of Aron Donnum, Cristian Casseres, and Gabriel Suazo.
65th min: GOAL! LIVERPOOL! What a wild passage of play! Darwin Nunez produces a HORRIBLE miss as he rounds the goalkeeper and has the ENTIRE goal to shoot at, only to hit the post! The rebound, luckily, falls straight to Ryan Gravenberch, who saves Nunez's blushes, and with the goalkeeper failing to recover and only one defender to beat, the Dutchman takes care of the chance at the near post.
A truly hilarious moment which leaves Nunez embarrassed but Liverpool capitalise nonetheless.

61st min: Chance, Liverpool! Guillaume Restes is forced into action, diving down low to his left to keep out a shot by Ryan Gravenberch from distance! He only just got to that, maybe not quite prepared for a shot so early in the transition.
60th min: Joe Gomez nearly puts the ball in his own net as he kicks the ball off the feet of a charging Aron Donnum attacker, but he puts it just wide of the post as Caoimhin Kelleher went full-stretch to dive.
56th min: Liverpool seem to have recovered a bit from their early half doldrums. Wataru Endo fires a low shot just wide of the post, and then they come close to capitalising a mistake by Guillaume Restes who couldn't handle a Ryan Gravenberch shot, but Darwin Nunez is just late arriving as Restes recovers.
54th min: Darwin Nunez nearly had his pocket picked while ushering possession back into his own half, as he completely switched off while setting up his team.
Whatever changes Toulouse head coach Carles Martinez made at halftime have worked wonders, and Liverpool are back on their heels to start the second half. The visiting fans show their appreciation by lighting flares in their seats.

47th min: Chance, Toulouse! TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD BLOCKS A WIDE-OPEN CHANCE OFF THE LINE! Caoimhin Kelleher makes a mess of possession and gifts it right back to Toulouse, and with the goal completely wide-open, Gabriel Suazo just has to evade the one man back covering.
Instead, he fires it straight at Alexander-Arnold, who turns away the effort without handling the ball in the process. It's a horrid mistake from Suazo to leave a similarly ugly error from Kelleher go unpunished.

Kickoff: The second half is under way, with Liverpool protecting a 3-1 lead. Jurgen Klopp has made no changes at the break, understandably considering how well his side performed in the first 45 minutes.
Toulouse have not made any changes either, as their front two impressed but the back line needs improvement.
HALFTIME: Liverpool 3-1 Toulouse
The French visitors showed positive intent in moments, and were feisty in midfield, but they were punished for leakiness at the back, with Liverpool finishing all three of their good chances to lead comfortably at the break. The Reds ripped off 11 shots in that first half, with five on target and three put by the young Toulouse goalkeeper.
Liverpool's midfield trio of Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Wataru Endo were excellent in their various roles, only troubled for a bit after the Toulouse equaliser but able to reestablish their grip on the game.

Liverpool vs Toulouse: First Half
39th min: Toulouse manager Carles Martinez applauds vociferously as Vincent Sierro has a go from the top of the penalty area and curls it just wide of the far post. Better from the visitors, but they're in a big hole now.
33rd min: GOAL! LIVERPOOL! Darwin Nunez has Liverpool's third, and they appear to be pulling away!
A Curtis Jones shot is blocked but falls kindly to the feet of Nunez at the far post who crashes his effort into the back of the net! There's a VAR check for handball in the buildup, but it's given.

Eventually, he decides to take it on himself, and he fires a low, driven effort on the turn and forcing Guillaume Restes to make a good save at his near post.
25th min: Liverpool appear rattled. The Reds are flying into challenges and throwing themselves at loose balls with a bit of panic, and Jurgen Klopp will want them to settle a bit.
On one occasion, Joe Gomez may have picked up a knock as he collided with Curtis Jones in midfield. That deserves some attention moving forward as Toulouse will be sure to continue attacking the Liverpool back line with vertical pace.

20th min: Liverpool are maintaining control over possession, but the equalising goal has energised the Toulouse midfield and they are making life extremely difficult for the Reds in the middle third, preventing good build-up play. Toulouse captain Vincent Sierro has been excellent so far in keeping a lid on the Liverpool progression.
15th min: GOAL! TOULOUSE! An equaliser completely against the run of play! Liverpool waste a corner by committing a foul, and Toulouse play vertically as Aron Donnum springs Thijs Dallinga free behind a napping Reds' back line! He finishes past Caohmin Kelleher, and sends the visiting fans into euphoria!

Liverpool vs Toulouse: Pre-match commentary, analysis, stats, and more
15 mins to kickoff: With the opening whistle approaching, a bit about tonight's Slovenian referee Rade Obrenovic. He is an experienced official who has been chosen to take charge of recent games in the Champions League, as well as international matches in both World Cup and Euro qualifying.
Most recently, he took charge of a 2-0 win for Latvia over Armenia in Euro 2024 qualification, and he was also on the whistle for Shakhtar Donetsk's wild 3-2 win at Royal Antwerp. Liverpool will be the first Premier League club he has overseen in a European competition, at least going back to 2020, although he was involved in a Champions League game for Man City last year.
— Liverpool FC (@LFC) October 26, 2023
30 mins to kickoff: Caoimhin Kelleher has been one of the best young goalkeepers in England in recent years, as the 24-year-old has established himself as a strong backup to entrenched Liverpool starter Alisson. He has done well enough to earn Jurgen Klopp's trust as the Cup goalkeeper, even wearing the armband for the final 10 minutes of their EFL Cup win over Leicester City last month, but missed the last Europa League game due to injury.
He's back in the lineup here today, and will surely play a big role in Liverpool's romp through the continental competition moving forward. It's possible that he eventually searches for first-team minutes elsewhere, and Liverpool may have to acquiesce to that desire, but for now he is a Red, and an important one across a long season.
🗣 "He could play in any Premier League team, he is a world class goalie." 🙌

45 mins to kickoff: Darwin Nunez has been mostly a super-sub in Premier League play this year, but could earn a more consistent place in the Liverpool starting lineup with a positive performance here today. With Mohamed Salah on the bench along with Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, the Liverpool attack will largely flow through the Uruguayan who has not scored since late September.

1 hour to kickoff: The Toulouse lineup is in, and they've gone three-at-the-back to deal with the pace of Liverpool's forward line, inserting an extra centre-back in Moussa Diarra.

1 hour 15 mins to kick: Liverpool have released their starting lineup, and as we speculated might occur, young Luke Chambers has earned a start at left-back in place of Kostas Tsimikas and the injured Andy Robertson. Also deployed is Ryan Gravenberch, who has impressed in this competition recently.
Alisson is rested, replaced in goal by Caoimhin Kelleher, while Mohamed Salah is also on the bench.

2 hours to kickoff: There has been speculation around Liverpool media that Jurgen Klopp could look to a few younger options to fill some gaps with left-back Andy Robertson injured. Kostas Tsimikas is the first-choice backup and Joe Gomez can deputise, but with Robertson down for a number of months, Tsimikas will need a break, and this could be the perfect opportunity to get him some rest.
A pair of academy teenagers are in contention, with 19-year-old Luke Chambers and 18-year-old Calum Scanlon the two young players at Klopp's disposal. Chambers has been training with the first-team for a bit now and seems the more likely option, while Scanlon has recently joined them as well.
🗣️ “We have Joe Gomez who can play the position, we have Luke Chambers and other young boys who show up in training.”

Liverpool vs Toulouse lineups & team news
The notable absentee for Liverpool is Andy Robertson, who recently underwent shoulder surgery following an injury sustained during the international break. In his place steps teenager Luke Chambers to give regular understudy Kostas Tsimikas a rest.
On the positive side, Cody Gakpo returns after sitting out the last three games due to a knee problem, available off the bench. Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak are all missing due to injury.
Liverpool starting lineup (4-3-3): Kelleher (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Matip, Chambers — Endo, Gravenberch, Jones — Elliiott, Jota, Nunez.
Liverpool subs (12): Alisson (GK), Jaros (GK), van Dijk, Quansah, Scanlon, Tsimikas, McConnell, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, L. Diaz, Salah, Gakpo.
Toulouse face injury concerns of their own. Zakaria Aboukhlal and Oliver Zanden are sidelined, and it seems the game will come too soon for Ibrahim Cissoko's return. On a brighter note, Stijn Spierings is back in contention after serving a suspension, and Logan Costa is also available for selection.
Toulouse starting lineup (3-5-2): Restes (GK) — Diarra, Costa, Nicolaisen— Suazo, Schmidt, Sierro, Casseres, Desler — Donnum, Dallinga
Toulouse subs (9): Dominguez (GK), Kamanzi, Mawissa, Keben, Genreau, Gelabert, Begraoui, Magri, Bangre.
