Is Brian Robinson Jr. playing this week? Injury update, fantasy outlook for Commanders' RB ahead of Week 5 image

The Washington Commanders' offense has taken the NFL by storm this season. They lead the NFL in just about every offensive efficiency and production metric, but the most impressive statistic may be that Washington has punted four times this season. In their last three games, they've punted just once.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been one of the most effective and efficient quarterbacks this season. Running back Brian Robinson Jr. has also been a key piece of Washington's offensive success. Through 4 games, Robinson ranks 10th in total rushing yards on the back of 4.7 YPC.

Robinson did not suffer a noticeable injury last week, but he's spent the week on the injury report nonetheless. Let's take a look at the latest updates surrounding Robinson's Week 5 status.

Will Brian Robinson Jr. play this week? Injury update on Commanders' RB

UPDATE: Brian Robinson Jr. is officially active for Sunday's game against Cleveland.

Robinson is officially listed as questionable after missing two practices to open the week and participating in a limited fashion on Friday. This kind of practice participation trend does not typically bode well for a running back's Sunday availability. However, Robinson has provided some good news.

This cryptic Tweet does not guarantee that he'll take the field, but it's an encouraging sign. At this point, it would come as a shock to see Robinson listed as inactive.

Commanders' RB Depth Chart: Who is Who is Brian Robinson's Backup?

Washington is one of the many NFL teams that utilizes multiple running backs on a consistent basis. Robinson is joined by veteran Austin Ekeler in the Commanders' backfield. Ekeler has been dealing with an injury of his own (concussion) in recent weeks, but he has been cleared to play.

If Robinson is unable to play, Ekeler will take on a larger role as a rusher on top of his pass-catching duties. Third-string RB Jeremy McNichols would also play a larger role in the offense if Robinson is a surprise inactive.

Brian Robinson Jr. fantasy outlook Week 5

As of now, fantasy managers with Robinson on their team should plan for him to be available. In that case, he's a player who is very much worthy of a start in your RB2 slot. Robinson comes in as the RB14 in the Sporting News Rankings.

Robinson has a strong role within the Washington offense, handling 75 percent of the backfield carries and leading all running backs with 10 targets. Robinson has been highly effective with his opportunities this season; he's averaging 15.9 PPG and delivered a top-24 performance in three of four games. Unless the Washington offense significantly regresses, Robinson will maintain his RB2 status.
