History has been made at WrestleMania 37, with Australia's own Rhea Ripley defeating Asuka to become the new Raw Women's Championship.

The 24-year old has become the first-ever Australian to win a singles world title in WWE, after previously holding gold in the developmental brand of NXT.

Peyton Royce and Billie Kay won the Women's Tag Team Titles two years ago at WrestleMania 35, but neither have gained singles success in the company yet.

Ripley - real name Demi Bennett - defeated the champion Asuka, who is regarded in the industry as one of the best female performers of all time, in front of a crowd of 25,000 people at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

Ripley's rapid rise up the ranks in WWE has certainly opened the door for more Aussie talent to succeed, and she is still in the early stages of her career.

Earlier in WrestleMania week, fellow Aussie Bronson Reed was unsuccessful in his shot at title glory, falling to Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver.
