WWE announced the news on Sunday morning (AEDT), with Lesnar now added to the WWE Title match in a Fatal Five-Way.

"Earlier today, Roman Reigns tested positive for COVID-19," a statement read.

"As we’ve seen with many superstar athletes, this result has left Reigns unable to compete in the originally scheduled defense of his WWE Universal Championship against Lesnar.

"WWE wishes him well in his recovery."

Reigns posted a statement on Twitter, and is hoping to return to the ring as soon as possible.

"I yearn to perform tonight at #WWEDay1 to defend my Universal Championship," he said.

"However, unfortunately, earlier today I tested positive for COVID-19. Due to the proper protocols I am unable to compete as originally scheduled.

"I look forward to returning to action as soon as possible."

Reigns is immunocompromised due to previous battles with leukemia, which saw him step away from competing during 2020 when the pandemic began.
