Have Wales ever beaten the Wallabies in Australia? Full history of the nations' Test match-ups image

Wales are gearing up for their first Test matches in Australia since 2012, as they take on a new look Wallabies side in back-to-back matches in July.

Wales are looking to bounce back quickly from an awful performance at the Six Nations, where they lost every game and 'won' the wooden spoon for the first time since 2003.

Given Australia's changes in on and off field personnel and Wales' recent struggles, it is difficult to call who will end up on top.

The Sporting News looks at when Wales last won in Australia, and the head-to-head records of the two nations.

Have Wales ever beaten the Wallabies in Australia?

In 13 matches against the Wallabies in Australia, Wales has only managed to win once.

That win came way back in 1969 during Wales' tour of Oceania, which included trips to New Zealand and Fiji.

Wales recorded a narrow 19-16 win over the Wallabies at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which was one of two wins in major Test matches on the tour.

Wales' last match in Australia saw them defeated 20-19 at the old Sydney Football Stadium, meaning they lost the two-game series that year 2-0.

  • 14 wins to Wales

The two nations have played 47 Tests against each other since 1908, and Australia still holds a decent lead over their European rivals.

The split was fairly even until the 1980s, where Australia then pulled away with several wins in the late 80s and 90s with a golden generation of talent that won two World Cups in this time.

The Wallabies also won 13 matches in a row between 2009 and 2018 despite declining overall.

Wales has hit back with four wins in the last five matches, including twice at the last two World Cups.

The last meeting between the sides came in the first match of the July International Tests, with a new-look Wallabies side defeating Wales 25-16 in Sydney, extending Warren Gatland sides winless run.
