The State of Origin series rolls into Brisbane for the third and final clash between New South Wales and Queensland on Wednesday, July 17.

The Maroons battered the Blues 38-10 in the opening game of the series, before Michael Maguire's new-look side responded in kind with a 38-18 result at the MCG.

QLD are still in a strong position after winning the first game as they get the chance to dust themselves off and claim their third straight series victory in front of their home fans.

Maroons team news:

Slater had plenty to ponder after the horror show in Melbourne with the coach ringing the changes.

Two of those changes have been injury-enforced with Xavier Coates and Murray Taulagi ruled out due to hamstring issues.

Veteran Dane Gagai has been brought into the side after being 18th man in Game II, while Selwyn Cobbo has earned a recall.

Cobbo has been listed to start on one wing, with Valentine Holmes moving to the other to accommodate for Gagai in the centres.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow suffered a shoulder injury during the loss at the MCG but eventually returned to the fray in the second half to bag a four-pointer. The Dolphins star is expected to be fine for Origin III.

Jaydn Su'A has been dropped from the side with Kurt Capewell elevated to start in the backrow in a surprise move.

Meanwhile, Kalyn Ponga will return to the Origin arena after making his comeback from injury in Round 18. He has been named on the bench after missing the entirety of last year's series and the first two matches of the 2024 series.

There is no place in the side for David Fifita though with the star backrower snubbed once again. Trent Loiero and Brendan Piakura have been listed in the reserves instead.

Reed Mahoney has also been named in the extended squad as he will act as cover for Harry Grant, who is nursing a sternum injury.

J'maine Hopgood has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a back injury.

NSW confirmed team list:

Blues team news:

NSW have suffered a massive blow with Latrell Mitchell ruled out of the decider due to a foot injury he sustained while playing for Souths in Round 18.

Bradman Best won the race to the vacant spot in the backline ahead of Tom Trbojevic and Joseph Suaalii

The Knights star was sent for a precautionary scan on his hamstring with Matt Burton on standby to replace him. However, he has since been cleared to play.

In the only other change, Mitch Barnett has been brought onto the bench in place of Haumole Olakau’atu
