Melbourne Storm and Penrith Panthers are set to fight it out in the ultimate battle for the 2024 NRL Premiership on Sunday.

The game is touted to be one of the biggest as the two giants decide who is the ultimate winner. Melbourne has a slight edge over the Panthers as they have won all three time they played each other in 2024.

In the meantime, former Storm player, Billy Slater gave his pick for the winners on A Current Affair.

The last time Penrith and Melbourne played in the Grand Final was in 2020 and the Storm won the Premiership.

When asked if history will repeat itself on Sunday night, Slater said, "I'm Storm through and through, Lizzy. I'm always gonna keep the Storm."

"I think they can beat the Panthers, but I think it's going to be huge motivation for the Panthers."

"I know they'll be hungry for success against the Storm who beat them in 2020, but I've seen the energy levels and the hunger levels of Melbourne as well."

"So that's why I think it's going to be one of the all-time greats, but I'm leaning towards the Storm."

The former fullback led the Storm to two Premierships during his time, in 2012 and 2017.

Melbourne last won the title in 2020 while the Panthers are looking to continue their three-year winning streak.

The Grand Final is scheduled for 7:30 pm AEDT at Sydney's Accor Stadium on October 6.
