Dally M Medal 2024 results: Awards, winners, Team of the Year as Jahrome Hughes, Olivia Kernick named game's best image

Jahrome Hughes has been named the 2024 NRL Dally M Player of the Year after a stellar season for the Storm.

The halfback edged out Roosters fullback James Tedesco by a single point, with his six-point haul in the last round against the Broncos getting him across the line.

Olivia Kernick received the NRLW Dally M Medal for her outstanding campaign with the Roosters.

The 23-year-old second-rower was crucial in the Tricolours' run to the upcoming grand final.

Dally M Medal 2024: Hughes, Kernick win award

Hughes entered Wednesday night's ceremony as the heavy favourite to take out the NRL Dally M Medal, although his victory was no landslide.

He received a six-point deduction early in the vote count for a Round 2 incident which saw him make contact with a referee.

However, his consistency was rewarded, with his 62 votes pipping Tedesco's 61.

The Storm's decision to rest their star halfback in the penultimate round almost cost Hughes, but his Round 27 performance against the Broncos – where he notched three tries and two try assists – saw him top the tally and be named the best men's player.

"I didn’t come here with too much expectation, but when it got down to the wire, I was really nervous," Hughes said.

"Looking at the players who have won it, and the quality of players we have in the game, to be up there, it’s a true honour. I’m really humbled."

On the NRLW side, it was Kernick who emerged victorious.

The second-rower polled 22 points, beating out the likes of Eels fullback Abbi Church (20) and Titans halfback Lauren Brown (19).

Kernick notably played every minute of every game in the nine-round season.

"I definitely didn’t expect that this year," she said.

"Sort of caught off guard but I think this year the women’s NRL has really proven, and we’ve really produced a good product this year ...  I think we’ve taken the competition to another level."
